Donnelly had expressed the modest hope that he could garner the minimum 30% of
delegate's support which would get him onto the primary ballot without having to
circulate a petition.  He was also hoping to get the needed 51% to decide the Republican
contest.  Instead, Donnelly won an unprecedented landslide of the votes indicating
Gibson has almost no support from within his own party to seek reelection.

Senate candidate and former Rep. Bob Schaffer, Rep. Marylin Musgrave, State Sen.
Steve Johnson, State House Representatives Kevin Lunberg and Don Marostica were
among the other candidates who participated in the assembly and spoke to the delegates.
The delegates are Republicans who attended the caucuses in early February and were
elected from among the participants to represent their precinct at the county assembly.

Republican Party Chairman Kirk Brush capably mastered the ceremonies and official
duties in what appeared to be a smooth and orderly assembly.  Ron Paul rascals mixed
with Huckabee holdouts while the majority appear to be backing Senator McCain.

Larimer County Republican Assembly Rejects
Sitting Commissioner Gibson As Their Nominee

Loveland (The Ranch) - March 1, 2008

Larimer County Republicans gathered today
for an assembly of the delegates chosen from
the February caucuses to decide on the
Republican Party candidates.

The big news of the assembly was the
overwhelming support displayed by the
delegates for County Surveyor Tom Donnelly
to replace sitting County Commissioner Glenn
Gibson as the party nominee for the position.
Of the 610 votes cast for the Larimer County
Commissioner, 474 delegates chose Tom
Donnelly over the incumbent Republican
County Commissioner Glenn  Gibson.  Only
135 votes (22%) were cast for Gibson.
The Ron Paul contingent also attended the assembly along with supporters of Gov.
Huckabee.  Many Republicans previously committed to Gov. Romney are now supporting
Sen. McCain while the Ron Paul supporters vow to continue their campaign to the bitter
end.
Other News from the assembly..........

State Senator Steve Johnson easily won his
effort to challenge current County
Commissioner Eubanks who was appointed
after Karen Wagner resigned her seat.
Democrats are unhappy with Eubanks who
they believe is voting more like a Republican
since being appointed.  The term-limited State
Senator Johnson would not have been
allowed to run again after the end of his
current term.  Given Eubank's struggle within
his own party and Johnson's wide appeal
within Larimer County, Johnson is the
odds-on favored to win the contest.

Marostica for Governor?
A number of key supporters of State House
Representative Don Marostica were
promoting him as "the next Governor of
Colorado."  Marostica's ambition to run for
Governor is something he has mentioned
since before running for State House two
years ago.
